Revision Hip Arthroscopy/ Failed Hip Arthroscopy

I always wonder how many other people have fallen into this predicament as well. What I have noticed is that these are key words that often bring people to my blog. I have no way to really keep track, but often I will scan my sitemeter which will tell me the search words used by readers. It doesn't always work, for example, "Landsickness" through google brings up my blog, o the top 10 (I checked), but so do other key words, like FAI, hipscope, hip arthroscopy,psoas....and my all time favorite, "Bryan Kelly hipscope", my blog is #1 on google if you put in those words. This is quite embarrassing as well as pretty funny, if you ask me! (If he knew, he probably wouldn't agree!)

So, my point is, I was curious, who has had a failed hip arthroscopy? or failed FAI surgery? or failed surgery for a labral tear? Who has retorn their labrum? And even more importantly....why...what reason were you given??
Now would be a great time for all lurkers to share their story, so we can all learn from each other.
Me? An conservative surgeon who didn't want to take down too much bone if it was unnecessary. We found out the hard way that it indeed was necessary, but a happy ending for all involved parties!!!

Arthroscopyis surgery that uses a tiny camera called an arthroscope to examine or repair the tissues inside or around your shoulder joint. Revision knee replacement is performed in the highly unlikely case when a previously operated total knee prosthesis relapses and has to be filled with a new prosthesis.
During Arthroscopy the arthroscope is inserted through a small cut (incision) in your skin.Injuries may happen amid games, street car crashes or exercises of day by day living (slipping on a wet floor, bouncing from a low tallness or notwithstanding moving) that outcome in a sudden alter of course (turning), hopping or landing fumblingly.

Jeg fik varig men efter min hofteartoskopi og er endt i kørestol.
Bløddelene tog skade og det samme med hofteleddet. Det dør langsomt.
Lægerne kan ikke gøre mere.
Hofteartoskopi burde forbydes.

Hey I had a labral tear repair with the surgeon pairing away part of the bone in March this year. I was really good post op meaning all my symptoms were coming from the tear. I went to physio until june.

September I slipped overstretching the affected leg. I had pain but the pain was made worse 1 week later when I worked at a festival I was standing for almost 10hours straight including twisting and bending. Over the last 5 weeks the pain has got worse and it is pretty constant.

The pain is almost exactly the same as what I had pre op.

I really appreciate someone's help.

Ash

Hello fellow labral tears!

It's tough for me to be searching for a support blog...again. I'm a 30 year old female and tore my hips when I was 24, training for a marathon. I've since had two surgeries on the right, and one on the left for labral repair/reconstruction. The last surgery was the most success in pain and function, but my left continued to bother me.
2012: Labral debridement right hip
2014: Labral repair left hip/bone shave femoral head
2015: Labral reconstruction right hip

2017: Scheduled for left hip revision surgery

I feel like it's a never ending story but I am also stubborn, and feel like there is an end to this chronic pain.

My left hip has been shown to have a tear in an MRI and my ortho suggested surgery. I guess my question is, should I keep trying or, deal with the pain at the level it is now, and modify my life activities? Will I just keep getting surgeries? My right one conveniently is bothering me 2 1/2 years out.

Second labrum surgery? Did i retear the labrum i had previously had surgery on?

17 years old. Lived with hip pain the last year and a half now. Started when i was 15 and lifting weights. I had FAI labrum surgery 15 weeks ago and physical therapy and pain was getting generally better each day until about 3 weeks ago i stood up too fast and felt deep groin pain. I'm now experiencing the same constant groin pain everyday and it worses when i move. Physical therapy makes it better but it always comes back like it did before. After my surgery i had fallen once or twice and sex was probably the most excersise i had pushed myself to but i was recovering from those activities well. Its just standing up to fast got me and i feel like im almost back at square one and i am depressed and scared more than ever. I dont want a future with this problem and every morning and waking day of my life i have anxiety thinking about it. I was so happy when it was finally getting better but now i feel stuck again. I just want to be able to return to even taking my dog for a walk pain free. I cant even sit in class without pain. I am becoming severly depressed because of my chronic pain and am loosing a drive to want to continue on things. I go back for another MRI with dye tomorrow, the 11th of December. I just want to live like a normal teenager and have normal teenager problems. This is overally stressful and i cant take it anymore. If anyone has any advice or can help or has experienced similar problems please feel free to contact me at 815-572-1282. Or email me at 190061@mchs154students.org

Thank you, Cade

They most always fail. I don't know why they just don't replace the hip. That was the cure 5 years ago and it's a lot better in the long run. Over 90% of artoscopic surgeries for hip inpingement fail to cure the problem.

Hi, I am a 26 yr. old female. I had a labral repair and fai/cam/ pincher that was shaved into the best form possible. Before surgery, I had pain walking in the groin. However, after surgery I am so much worse. 2 years later, and I am not able to sit, stand, or walk for more than 20 minutes. There is some swelling on MRIs but otherwise imaging looks good. I've tried cortisone shots which have had no improvement and have been in PT for 2 years 3x a week. Muscle strength has tested normal. However, I cannot hold a job and my life is very, very limited 2 years post surgery. Looking for any ideas or recommendations! Thank you all for sharing your stores, we can get through this!

I am so sorry to hear about everyone's suffering. I have been a bartender for 35 years, rode and showed horses most of my life . Lets not forget riding 200+ miles a few times a week on my Harleys
Work hard...play hard. Anyways in the past five years i have had four major surgeries . Two being Lumbar spinal fusions that were not successful . I had nasal surgery September 2017 for polyps and deviated septum . I started getting really agonizing hip pain in my left hipdown the-outer side. After 6 months of PT (and leaving there with a throbbing ache so bad i would cry. So 10 months later they finally order the MRI. I had a labral hip tear and glutitus medius tear and glutitus maximus tear as well as Tronchanteric bursitis in my hip. Out of all these painful surgeries, mind you i am a tough cookie not one to whine about pain). I went to my postop appointment two weeks after surgery. I thought I was turning the corner ... that is until i got home and opened my storm door and the wind caught the door and sent me flying like a slingshot . I landed Yes... are you ready .. on my left hip in my asphalt driveway and my door flung me about 6 or 8 feet and I used to have the most vibrant silly personality but its one thing after another . I am majorly depressed. The girl who used to work 2 to 3 jobs run the beach everyday does nothing but stare at my ceiling everyday. I am now on SSDI because of all my failed surgeries . I am a single mother of a beautiful 10 year old son if it wasn't for him to keep me pushing on ... I really don't want to know where I would be right now. I am praying for all of you that the end result will be worth it in the end!! Also can't take Nsaids ot any antiinflamitories they give me bleeding ulcers and I dry heave and it closes my throat and cannot breathe . The only thing I can take is Vicodin and Tylenol. And the pain meds are such a low dose they don't do anything for the pain unless I take 2 at a time God damn junkies getting high off meds that it ruins it for those who are suffering . 52 next month and i have had nine major surgeries in my life. When the pain goes-away so do the meds. I don't understand how people can get high off a pill. I have never. All it does it take the edge a bit off the pain. Anyone ever feel like chatting or venting I am here to listen !

45 year old female. 7+ year history of right hip locking and getting stuck. Chronic, debilitating pain started June/2017. Went to orthopedic surgeon. MRI & arthrogram. Torn labrum, and early onset osteoarthritis. Cortisone shot in hip. Helped a little bit for about a month. PT for 6 weeks. Sent to another orthopedic surgeon who specializes in this surgery. Post-op, surgeon says there was no arthritis when he went in (yay!). The lear was large, but because it was just utterly shredded - he couldn't fix it. Just trimmed and smoothed out. Post surgery all pain was gone (except the surgical/healing pain). Because it was just a debridement, I was to be weight bearing as tolerated. I was full weight bearing by 2 weeks. Still going slow and not up to full activity. Still taking it easy. Looking forward to my post-op appointment with the surgeon on 3/5. BUT a few days ago - the sharping, pinching pain right groin pain reared its ugly head. Mild. Very occasionally. I thought perhaps I had over done something somehow. It is becoming more frequent and more severe ever since. Very concerned that what every caused the shredding to begin with is still happening. Nervous about what the surgeon will say on 3/5. Moving out of state (with husband's job) in 3.5 months and really don't want to start it all again with someone else.

Very nice Article and comments. I got information from one of the comment about PeaPlex from RS4supplements.com. I tried it and it’s really helpful.

Injured my hip in 2013, wasn't sure what it was. Finally got seen in 2014, started out with hip injections and PT. No improvement. Had FAI surgery for torn labrum and hip impingement in Jan, and I must say, I seriously think it wasn't successful. I'm hitting 5 months post op, and I have constant pain in my groin, and burning pain any time I do adduction or abduction in my posterior hip. The pain has gotten so bad that my knee now hurts and I feel pain and numbness all the way down in my foot. when I walk I can feel the pressure build in my groin to the point I have to stop often. I have a very demanding job so I'm on my feet a lot and I just don't think that is making it any better. I keep telling my ortho that I feel like something is wrong, but I just keep getting told to stick with PT and build my muscles up. My glute hurts, the side of my hip hurts to the touch, so yes, some of this is muscular.. but the burning and pinching I feel is way deep down in my bone.. I also think I may have adhesions.

Anyway, my most recent Xray basically stated I had growths in the area that would cause hip impingements. Ironically I was told that the Xray was incorrect.. that's confusing because is the radiologist, who doesn't know my history reading it wrong? I doubt it.. Anyone else have these issues, and should I give it more time?

Hye i have read your blog post, i found interesting, You ask nice question as not 100 % hip Hip Arthroscopy can be sucessfull, But if doctor from who you are taking treatment is experience, in that case risk of failure is less. If want know more about mosm surgeons you can read on website.
