Valium.....Ahhhh

Ok, what the heck was I thinking for the past 4 MRIs....MRIs with Valium are the equivalent of getting a massage...and having your insurance foot the bill!! I have never actually enjoyed an MRI...until today. I was sorry it was over because I was so relaxed and happy. It flew by! I didn't want to get up when it was done! I could kick myself for not having requested it the other times...Oh well, live and learn!!!

I had no idea one could take vallium for an MRI. How did it work? Did you take a pill or get an IV? Were you able to function right after (drive, etc.)?

I'd love to do an MRI like that. It would be so much better than squeezing my eyes shut and trying not to think about that tube getting jammed and my being stuck in there for hours while the engineering tech gets out the instruction manual and then has to call the manufacturer...

They always say that I was perfectly still. Well, yes, because I'm too petrified to move and one breath away from a panic attack!!

Glad you survived, but so unfair that you've had to have soooo many.

CJ- YES you can have Valium! Just ask your doctor to write a prescription. It is a pill, you take it 30 min before the scan...it was like heaven!!

It sometimes gets stuffy to breath in the MRI tube: did you find that having a medicine that acts as a depressant affected you in this way at all or increased this potential, if you felt it before yourself?

I do much visualization while in the tube, go on trips to far off foreign lands, etc...but I don't think I would personally take valium. I find that through deep breathing and visualization, it has the same effect.

Plus, I just don't think with my body's sensitive response to meds and it's normally relaxed state my body would react very well to any additional ingested depressants.

But glad it worked for you...I am curious about the breathing though...?

I have never had the tube feel stuffy, there is always air blowing right on my face which gives the feeling of a cool breeze! I found it easier to breathe bc I wasn't anywhere close to panicking this time!
