Thinking and Worrying

Since I had spoken to my OS on a Friday evening, I had to wait until Monday to really explore my options. The first thing I did was call the chiro to see if he was a good fit for me, and to see what his fees are since they do not take insurance. To make it short, sweet and simple, I hated him! He was arrogant, condescending and an all around asshole. There is no way I can work with someone like that.
I also have gone over the MRI report and gone over it again and again. I have discussed things with my husband to no end. He thinks I am being silly and stubborn and need to bite the bullet and agree to an open surgery. I think I am starting to agree, but the thought of it scares the crap out of me. TO scare myself even more, I watched a video of the procedure today....probably a very bad idea.
I emailed my OS because I have a ton of questions and think we need to address a lot of issues, mainly that I am freaking out!!!! Of course he has to be on vacation at the exact time that I am having an emotional breakdown, but I guess it doesn't really qualify as an emergency!
So I will "patiently" wait to hear from him, and go from there!!

Sarah- def need to talk, I am away for the weekend so when I get back! Hopefully by then I will have spoken to my OS! At this time I am not seeking a second opinion, I really don't think there is anyone else out there who can help me or that would want me at this point! I once got a second opinion from MM and his advice was to stick with my OS! I have full faith in him and hopefully this will finally help me!

Susie, you visit South Florida. I would advise you to speak with this chiro
Dr. Jay Scampole 561 674 1205. After hip arthroscopy that did not do the trick, pt -on and on, was going to give up and have a THR (bilat. torn labarums with many of the type of findings on your MRI). I have cancelled the THR surgery. I am so happy I decided to try one last thing before surgery after trying all this PT, other OS, other chiro, accupunture, etc
He is in West Palm Beach. Give him a call. life! You can google him. He is amazing. Not on my insurance but he is not that expensive and worth it.

I am new to your blog and have not read all of your history...I am in the operating room 4 days a week and I see plenty of hip arthroscopy surgeries...I do not see what video you are talking about and are worried about...a question I have to you is...WHY have you have labral tears and torn ligamentum teres? The physician I work with closely has determined that in many patients the repair need during a hip arthroscopy is not a torn labrum or reoccurring CAM or PINCER lesions, but instead lies in your acetabular cotyloid fossa. In this area where there is to be space for the ligamentum teres and femoral head to move about--there is heterotopic bone formation there which forces the femoral head to sublux laterally (be pushed out of socket) therefore causing the head to rub on the acetabular rim causing the reoccurring impingement and also increased wear and tear on your labrum...fixing a torn or shredded labrum doesn't do anything but put a band aid on a much larger problem...as your description of your issues and pain doesn't seem to stem from a one time sports injury, but instead increased chronic pain over time....would lead me to believe that your pain and issues are bone deep...not labrum deep...in other words, the symptoms your currently being treated for are secondary diagnosis to heterotopic bone build up in your cotyloid fossa (which is what causes the other torn labrum, impingement, etc. to occur).
I hope this gives you somethign to think about and consider. Not many (if any) other doctors know to look for this problem that we have found . Hip arthroscopy is still in its infancy phase and there is much more to be learned. Should you have any other questions please feel free to respond.

Also, your physician only have done 5 of these techniques...concerning especially since her still does open technique...the hip arthroplasty we perform is done arthroscopically...through 2-3 pin hole portals...like a knee arthroscopy scar...about 1/4 inch long....called a stab incision...nothing is opened... everything is seen through a scope similar in size to a pencil...
Also, we have got our surgery approved all the time...we use a different diagnosis code or ICD-9 code....since we believe the primary diagnosis is NOT labral tear or CAM/PINCER lesions...just a thought...

Anonymous- who is the doctor you work for?

I work in the Kansas City area in Kansas. Please look up Dr. James Brannon as I work with him and his insight to hip pain may be worth it to you. He does travel around the country teaching his techniques to other doctors who are interested in learning the procedure (if you could not travel to him). All I ask is that should you contact him that you allow me to be anonymous. I share to help people not to promote my job or a physician, I am sure you can understand. Than you, and I truly wish you the best on your search of a cure and relief.
