I am scheduled to have hip arthroscopy this Friday after years of severe pain which has become debilitating in the past few months. Unfortuately I have Aetna through my job at a hospital. The physician office met with their Aenta rep last week and it was determined that the new codes will not be covered. I have researched and found that the other major insurance companies (including medicare) are covering these new CPT codes. I find it interesting that in Aetna's policy of why it is being denied, it consistently states there are good to excellent results and patients are usually satisfied with their outcomes. Its like they didn't actually read the article.
It now has been advised for me to go ahead with the surgery then appeal it after completed. At this point I will go into debt to relieve the pain and move on with my life but also I feel like Aetna should step up with the rest of the insurance companies to cover these codes. Any advice???

This is so discouraging, my first appeal to a denial for surgery that was scheduled for Nov 17th was just submitted to aetna. I was hopeful that these new codes would be successful. Im so tired of being in pain, this is really interfering with the quality of my life. This is just a taste of "managed healthcare".
